NEW Online Program for Parents of ADHD Children and Teens:
5 Steps to Restore Peace at Home and Rebuild Your Relationship with Your ADHD Child/Teen
I am Gelena from www.coachgelena.com and I want to personally invite you to this BRAND NEW Program I have created exclusively for the parents of ADHD children and teens. And before I tell you all about it, let me ask you this question:
Does this sound like you?
- Your Household is in CHAOS
- Your child/teen just won’t listen or do as told
- There is a constant struggle over school work and missing assignments
- Arguing over house chores
- There is regular yelling and fighting and slamming of doors (or worse: not talking)
- And worst of all, there is a growing gap between you and your kid
If you said “YES” to any of these things, I know exactly how you feel, because:
I was there just a few short years ago.
Now, who am I and why am I doing this?
My name is Gelena Gorelik.
I am a strategic intervention coach, a certified relationship coach, I have been a healthcare professional (I am a Registered Dietitian) and a College Educator for most of my career.
I have been a speaker at State and National Conferences for Health Education Schools, but most importantly, I am a MOM to two wonderful teenagers.
I have a daughter Abi and a son Sam, one of whom is my spirited child, and the other is the compliant one. If you could guess, which one of them is a spirited kid and which one is the compliant one, if you guessed that Abi is my spirited child, you guessed right!
Abi was a great student when she started Kindergarten, and the first and the second grade. Yes, it took a loooooong time for her to do her homework, but it never occurred to us that this could be attention deficit.
So when her grade plummeted upon her transitioning from Elementary School to Middle School, thing began getting more and more challenging for her and for us, her parents. And as her grades went down to C’s and D’s, and even F’s…
…I felt like a failure.
…because I have always been a straight-A student. So for me having a child who is failing in school felt like a complete failure. And worst of all, Abi felt this tremendous amount of pressure of unmet expectations. She felt that there was this sense of disappointment and constant struggle, so she started slipping into depression.
These are pictures from our trip we took to Washington DC over a spring break, when Abi was 13. And you can tell from Abi’s body language that she was NOT a happy kid.
So, my relationship with Abi was in the dumps. There was a lot of yelling, screaming, door slamming, followed by silence… Long periods of silence (on both our sides). And not talking – that was the worst.
Another coach said once that communication is the life line of any relationship – and that is so true! When there is no communication – the relationship suffers a lot!
So, eventually, Abi who by this time was thoroughly depressed asked to see a therapist (smart girl!). And that’s when we found this wonderful psychologist Doctor Ruth Nevo, who spend some sessions with Abi, after which she called and sat us (Abi’s dad and me) down and told us that she thought that Abi could be suicidal…
I knew about teen depression and teen suicide, but I never expected it to hit so close to home. We were really afraid that Abi could hurt herself…
So we took Abi to a psychiatrist for tests and diagnosis. And Dr. Ruth was the first one who suggested that Abi’s depression stemmed from ADHD, which I did not believe at first. But Ruth recommended that we take Abi to a psychiatrist to see if the had Attention deficit indeed.
And surely enough, after some testing, Abi was diagnosed with Combined ADHD with Anxiety and Depression.
This was an eye opener. I was in shock, I have to say. But at the same time, this made ADHD more real to me. Because up until this point, I did not believe that ADHD was real.
It was devastating to me at first.
Actually, at first I wanted to scream: “Why can’t I just have a normal child?!!!!!”
And then I went through the 5 stages of Grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance. And sometimes, I am still going through them – they come and go in waves, and at times, they all hit at once.
And then we tried to medicating Abi with Concerta,Vyvanse, Ritalin, Adderall – none of them stuck. Abi said that medications made her feel “foggy” and “like a robot” or “not herself.” So the drugs did not work for Abi. She refused to take them.
Then we tried therapy. We found a child psychologist Sophia, who specialized in kids with ADHD. And this is actually the picture of the waiting room at the Family Therapy Center of Silicon Valley, where I spent countless hours, waiting while Abi was getting her therapy. Not to mention how expensive this was!
The main problem was: I wanted to fix HER – my daughter!
… And I couldn’t…
However, the real problem was that I could NOT fix Abi.
Abi was just Abi.
But I could change the way I was approaching the whole situation.
So I decided to start approaching this situation not as a problem, but as an opportunity for ME to grow: emotionally, intellectually, spiritually, and so on. So I began to educate myself: I bought and read a ton of books:
And then I registered and attended lots of seminars, webinars, I watched a ton of educational videos, TED talks, and even signed up for some programs!
And then, an interesting thing started happening:
As I learned more and more about ADHD, Abi started responding to me differently. She started warming up to me. Perhaps, she finally felt that I was not longer trying to fix her, but rather I was trying to understand her.
And I think, this made her feel not so alone. Then, little by little, I started seeing a change in our relationship.
This is what it looks like when it works:
I took the kids on a Spring break trip to LA: Abi took some of her friends and Sam took some of his. Kids had a blast!
And I was so happy that we got to this much more positive point in our relationship…
… but it took A LOT of work on my end! And TIME! And PATIENCE! And I really wished I had some help and support through this process!
I realized that I was the one who needed to grow up! I was the one who needed to be educated and informed. I was the one who had to change. And I learned so much about ADHD in the process! I also learned so much about myself and my daughter that I did not realize before!
I also realized that now I MUST help other parents of ADHD kids, just like me, so they would not have to go through all this trouble and pain, like I did!
I found some interesting statistics.
Did you know?
- 5% of kids between ages of 5 and 17 are diagnosed with ADHD
- Most of these kids have another Mood disorder to accompany ADHD
- Kids with ADHD at 7x more likely to commit suicide
- PARENTS of ADHD children are 10x more likely to commit suicide
This last one just blew me away!
So, I made it my mission to help other parents of ADHD kids.
I signed up to get trained as a Coach at the Center for Strategic Intervention – the Coaching School that was built on the teachings and principles of Tony Robbins and Chloe Madanes – the world renowned life coaches!
So TODAY: I am bringing to you this special program I have put together exclusively for Parents of ADHD kid and teens, showing you that you CAN restore peace at home and rebuild your relationship with your child in just 5 Steps:
- Step 1: Reframe the situation – stop seeing ADHD as a disorder, and start seeing it as something that makes your child stand out, makes them special, and unique
- Step 2: Understand your child’s needs – see how your child’s needs are met or not met, and what you can do to help your child meet his/her needs
- Step 3: Meet Your needs – this one is so often overlooked by a lot of parents! We (especially moms) feel guilty focusing on our needs, but when they are not met – we cannot be the best that we can be. So this is important!
- Step 4: Learn to respond, not react – there is a big difference between the two and you must know and apply it
- Step 5: Become the Leader (not manager) – what it means to be the leader of your household and why you must become one today!
Now I am going to ask you to stop for a moment and think of YOUR spirited kid and your last interaction with them… and the interaction before that … and the one before that…
And now take a deep breath and for a few moments…
Your child would
- get up on time
- go to bed when told
- finish homework every day
- clean their room
- do their house chores
- act polite and considerate
Ahhhh! Wouldn’t that be nice!…
If you said YES, you are in the right place!
Yes, it will take some work and determination from you, but I know, you got it in you!
Because the truth is…
Whatever you have been doing up until now has not been working, because it’s not what YOU or your CHILD needs!
What you need is a fresh new approach. It will take some work, but you can do this. In fact, what I am about to teach you is quite simple. (I said, simple, but not easy) And the good news is that I have created this special program just for you. It’s called:
Yes, I have created this program exclusively for parents of ADHD kids – just like you and me.
In this program, I have put together all my knowledge and experience from coaching, teaching, my experience as a healthcare professional. So that no parent has to walk through this figuring out process alone, like I did in my time

What others say about Gelena’s Coaching and programs:
Tamra E, Seattle, Washington
I’ve seen Gelena’s coaching skills in action and have been impressed. What I like about her approach here is that she is focused on making sure that parents pay attention to their needs too. This is SO important. Parenting a kid with ADHD is a challenge, but can also be a joy when approached certain ways – including valuing the gifts that come with ADHD (for which Gelena also advocates). Glad to see her putting together these resources and that she will be coaching parents.
Svetlana RM, San Diego, California
An experienced parent herself, Gelena is a personable and a very wise professional with bright, realistic and positive outlook on life. She is an invaluable asset for any family that needs her knowledge and skills. I highly recommend Coach Gelena!
Michael W, Canada:
Coach Gelena is by far the most inspirational and uplifting person I have met. She has brought out the abilities and skills that I have always had, taught me to know when and how to use them. I am on track now to becoming the person I always wanted to be. I will be forever grateful. Thank you so much, Coach!
Vanessa V, Menlo Park, California
Words are not enough to express my gratitude to one of the best mentors I have come across. I owe her a part of who I am today. She has a way in her that motivates others. I will be forever grateful.”
Mee CK, Montana
I appreciated how well Gelena’s unique style reduced very complex concepts to simple terms to meet my needs. Gelena not only teaches the concepts, she also listens with empathy and understanding. If you want to learn effective ways to foster health and relationships, I cannot recommend her highly enough
Libby A, Newark, California
Ms. Gelena was my instructor before. She was a phenomenal teacher. She made sure we understood the concepts and went above and beyond for her students. Her explanations were clear as water. She made our experience fun, and most of all, she believed in our potential
Karen S, Louisiana
I don’t know what I would have done without Gelena this past year. Her invaluable combination of strong leadership and unfailing compassion gave me the strength and confidence needed to deal with the loss of a loved one and continue to strive to become a better educator that I am today.
Tamila H, San Francisco, California
I would like to thank Gelena for her wonderful guidance. My life has never been the same because of what I learned from her. What she brings as a guide and coach is incredible and life-altering. She is a true leader than not only leads, but helps others to become leaders as well.
